Can You Really Get In Shape Fast?

You can get in shape fast if you follow a good program. But there is an additional and important thing you must have if you want to be successful -- Commitment! Without the will to actually get out and do something your desire to get in shape fast will disappear just as quickly.

If you are prepared to make some changes to your lifestyle you'll soon begin to see (and feel) the results. Before you start any diet and fitness program however, you should consult with your doctor first.

Here are the main points of any good fitness program.

A Balanced Diet
This means eating some of the main food groups at each meal:
- Grains (whole wheat) like bread and pasta
- Vegetables and Fruit
- Meats, fish, nuts
- Fats, (mostly unsaturated)

The secret to getting in shape is knowing how much to eat of each type. Your meal sizes should be moderate but you don't have to starve yourself.

Try to follow these recommendations for the amount of calories you consume:

- 45% to 50% from carbohydrates
- 30% 35% of from protein
- 15% to 20% from fat

Depending on your weight loss goal you might have to cut back some on the carbohydrate intake at first, but you can fill up from the other food groups, preferably the fruit and vegetables.

You also need to eat three meals a day -- don't skip breakfast to save time in the morning!

Change your snacks to include fresh fruit. An apple or banana are be very filling and filled with nutrients.

Exercise
If you want to see results quickly you must do some exercise. This is a good way to burn off calories, and you need to burn more than you consume if you want to lose weight. Exercise is also very good for your body! Your heart and lungs will benefit and after a few weeks you will feel much more energetic.

There are two types of exercise to follow:

- Aerobic exercise like walking, cycling or dance routines. This type of exercise works off the calories you have consumed. It is an excellent form of exercise for your heart.
- Anaerobic exercise like strength training is great for burning fat. It is a more intense workout than the aerobic kind. Don't forget to do abdominal exercises to strengthen the mid-section!

You should do aerobic exercise and strength training on alternate days. Take one day a week off as a rest day.

You should also:
- Reduce alcohol consumption
- Get plenty sleep
- Reduce stress whenever you can
- Eat less unhealthy snacks and fast foods like burgers and donuts
